Boys win TCAL State Track, Girls second!
State champions! For the fifth time this year – and fourth boys team – the Rams can lay claim to a TCAL title. The Boys Track and Field team won the Team title after outscoring runner-up Texas Christian, 134 to 123.5. Six events finished with our boys as the top finisher, including a State Record performance in the 400 Meter Relay.
Brent Westbrook broke his school record in the 400 Meter Dash for the third time this season, as he won by nearly 20 meters, and won the Discus. Gareth Prescott won both the Pole Vault and 300 Meter Hurdles, while Cody Vega topped the field in the 100 Meter Dash. Those three, along with Eric Vega, ran on the 400 Meter Relay team that broke the 8-year-old state record in the prelims, and then again the next day in the finals! Other notable performances included a school record performance in the 800 Meter Relay – JooHo Lee, Caleb Philips, Eric Vega and Gareth Prescott. JooHo Lee placed second in the Pole Vault and Stephen Prescott second in the Discus to round out the State Medalists for the Rams. Other key performers for the boy’s team included Grant Rhoads, Isaiah Savala, Sam Dawson, Josehp Guo, Jack Sui, Jerry Zou, Robin Li and Chris Chu. Awesome job Rams!
The Lady Rams Track and Field team finished in second place at the State Track meet. This marks the highest finish ever for a girls team at the State Meet. Claire Shenkir was the lone State Champion on the girls side, as she won the Discus and earned her first individual State Title! Several other girls and relays earned medals as well! Ally Friedman vaulted a school record in the Pole Vault with her second place finish, then added another silver medal in the Shot Put. Rees Newman jumped a personal best of 4’8 to tie the high school record in her runner-up performance. Bronze medalists included Madison Westbrook in the Pole Vault and Kylee Gilstrap in the Discus. The girls 400 Meter Relay team finished in second, and the 800 Meter Relay team finished third. Both teams consisted of Claire Donaho, Ally Friedman, Sabha Dosani and Rees Newman. The Mile Relay finished in third to cap the awesome string of performances for the Lady Rams – Rani Schwartz, Madison Westbrook, Sara Zoghi and Kendall Kacal ran on that relay.
