Favorite thing about Allen: Kids and colleagues with whom I can have thoughtful conversations.
What are you passionate about? Living life to the fullest! Whether far-fetched or local, I seek adventure and have special memories from unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. More than anything, though, I love the simple pleasures in life including: evening walks with my husband and dog, drinking coffee while solving world and family problems with my grandmother, mani / pedi appointments with my dad, and playing games with my students.
Favorite book: Proverbs, and Hispanic children’s literature, especially by Alma Flor Ada, Julia Álvarez, Sandra Cisneros
Favorite quotation: “Estar o no estar contigo es la medida de mi tiempo | To be or not to be with you is the measure of my time.” ~ Jorge Luis Borges. In other words, there is always someone I feel a longing to see.
Bucket List item:
Personally: A road trip through the Texas Hill Country with my husband.
Professionally: To spend a summer at the high school Spanish immersion camp at Middlebury College in Vermont.
What causes are close to your heart?
Kids In Need of Defense – a Houston-based non-profit that helps children through legal services; public education and outreach in the U.S., Central America and Mexico; and provides reintegration support for children returning alone from the U.S. to their home countries.
Shelter the Homeless International Project – specifically their micro-financing project for women.
If you were a fictional character, who would you be? Elizabeth Bennet, to a T.
If a movie was made about your life, who would play you? Someone who hasn’t been born yet. They won’t be making a movie of my life any time soon, but the best is yet to come!
