October Preschool News from Mrs. Westbrook
September was packed full of learning and fall fun! There were jungle roars, siren sounds, and an awesome baking unit enjoyed in PreK-I. Their adventures included learning about zoo animals, a zookeeper’s job, and how to count food for the animals. Dressed as firefighters, many fires were extinguished and there were several exciting trips on the fire truck as they learned about fire safety. They experienced pumpkin bread dough, apple pie baking, pancakes, a pizzeria, and graphing their favorite kind of jelly while sampling biscuits and toast.
PreK-II children explored units on Safety, Fall, Apples, and the author Laura Numeroff! An exciting visit with the Bryan Fire Department and math activities with fall leaves and apples filled their month with fun. I really enjoyed getting to be a part of measuring and comparing the lengths of their apple peels. It is a good thing I am so tall! Several yummy treats were sampled as they read stories about what happens when a mouse gets a cookie, a cat gets a cupcake and a moose gets a muffin.
Our hallways have come alive with many examples of the season and the units we are studying. October will be full of events that the children are excited to experience. Please note the following special activities for our preschoolers:
Apple Day – October 5th – we celebrated Apples with lots of fun games and outdoor activities. The day was full of exploration and experimentation with apples, water and shaving cream. Apples were washed, rolled, plopped and even used as basketballs. Spoon races, a wild wagon race and apple mobiles helped us count and move apples around the playground. A worm crawl, worm washing and counting brought out many giggles and lots of messy fun! Nap time was certainly welcome as a bunch of tired and squeaky clean preschoolers ended their Apple Day adventure J.
School Holiday – October 9th
Parent Conferences – October 19thth and 20th
Allen Academy’s Annual Fall Festival – October 19th from 6 to 9 pm – very preschool friendly and lots of fun for the whole family! Wristbands available to preorder until October 16th and will also be sold at the door that evening.
Pumpkin Celebration – October 31st
Please be sure to ask you child about their exciting adventures on Apple Day and our Pumpkin Celebration – I am sure they will have plenty of stories to shareJ. We are all looking forward to a month filled with apples, pumpkins, scarecrows and maybe even a squirrel or two!
