Ancient History 06:
Students will study the beginning of early civilizations through the fall of the Roman Empire. We will begin in the Paleolithic era and examine the geographical, social, economic, and political foundations for early civilizations progressing through the Roman Empire. They will analyze the shift from nomadic to agricultural societies and view each through various historical lenses. Students will also learn the historical thinking skills of contextualization, sourcing material and artifacts, and using them as evidence to bolster historically defensible claims.
Years to be covered are Paleolithic to the Fall of Rome in 476 AD.
Texas History 07:
Students will learn about state and local government including the development of the Texas Constitution. The content will include the geographical locations, historical data, and historical interpretations of Texas. The multicultural diversity of Texas, urbanization, and industrialization will also be studied.
Modern History 08:
Students will explore the global landscape from the decline of the Western Roman Empire to the emergence of influential empires such as the Byzantine, Tang, and Gupta, alongside the thriving civilizations of the Maya, Aztec, and the Inca in the Americas. The course will prioritize interactive class discussions, engaging students in the analysis of primary and secondary sources, fostering critical thinking skills and honing their writing abilities.
Years to be covered are 476 AD to 1453 AD.
Middle School Study Skills:
In conjunction with the middle school history courses, students will learn appropriate study skills. The development of these skills are woven into the history curriculum and aid students in preparing for the rigors of upper school. Skills include, but not limited to, using a planner, time management, study habits, listening skills, social-emotional learning, presentation skills, and using technology.
